There are certain hotels where the location does most of the talking.
At the Delamar Greenwich Harbor, that location is directly on the water.
Yachts sit outside the hotel. Balconies overlook Greenwich Harbor. A private marina stretches along the property, and in warmer months, guests can leave the hotel by boat and head onto Long Island Sound.
Yet step outside in the other direction and downtown Greenwich—with Greenwich Avenue’s boutiques, restaurants and cafés—is close by.
For Westchester residents, that’s what makes the Delamar particularly interesting. You don’t need an airport, a long drive or even an elaborate itinerary to create the feeling of getting away.
Sometimes you just need to cross the Connecticut state line.
A Little of the French Riviera in Greenwich
The Delamar doesn’t particularly look or feel like a conventional suburban hotel.
The waterfront property takes its inspiration from Europe and, more specifically, the French Riviera. Its Mediterranean-influenced architecture, terraces, balconies and marina all reinforce the feeling that the water is supposed to be part of the experience.
There’s a reason for the boutique feeling, too.
The hotel has only 82 guest rooms and suites, rather than the hundreds you’d find at a large resort.
Delamar Hotels founder Charles Mallory came to hospitality after a career in shipping. He founded the hotel company in 2000 and opened Delamar Greenwich Harbor in 2002, with the goal of bringing a world-class hotel and restaurant to his hometown of Greenwich.
The connection to the water, in other words, feels particularly appropriate.
The Rooms: Harbor Views, Balconies and Fireplaces
This is one hotel where the room you choose can make a substantial difference to the experience.
Many accommodations overlook Greenwich Harbor and include private balconies, while select suites add gas fireplaces. Rooms have a European-inspired design along with amenities such as robes and slippers, Illy espresso machines and BVLGARI bath products.
If you’re booking the hotel specifically for a romantic weekend or special occasion, I’d be particularly tempted by a harbor-view room.
There’s something inherently luxurious about being able to open the doors in the morning and see the marina without having to leave the room.
And then there’s another level entirely.
The Belvedere Floor
At the top of the hotel is the private Belvedere Floor, Delamar’s more exclusive hotel-within-a-hotel experience.
Guests here receive enhanced services and amenities, including access to a private salon, breakfast credit at L’Escale and refreshments during the day. There are also thoughtful extras such as an evening reception with hors d’oeuvres and refreshments, morning croissants with specialty coffee or tea and even a telescope that can be requested for stargazing.
Some Belvedere accommodations have harbor-view balconies and fireplaces.
It’s the kind of detail that changes the Delamar from a nice hotel close to home into something that could genuinely work for an anniversary or celebratory weekend.
And Then There’s the Penthouse
For the most extravagant stay, the hotel has another surprise.
The Vantage Penthouse Suite is a private rooftop residence designed by Bunny Williams and Elizabeth Lawrence.
It has two king bedrooms, expansive living and dining areas, panoramic views of Greenwich Harbor and its own private rooftop terrace.
That’s less “hotel room” and considerably closer to having a luxury Greenwich residence for the weekend.
Dinner at L’Escale

You don’t have to leave the hotel for dinner.
In fact, you might not want to.
l’escale restaurant is Delamar’s signature waterfront restaurant, serving French-influenced cuisine with Provençal and Mediterranean inspiration.
The dining room itself helps tell the story.
Two-hundred-year-old terra-cotta tiles and a wood-burning fireplace contribute to the Provençal atmosphere, while outdoor dining brings guests directly beside Greenwich Harbor.
During warm weather, the terrace is the obvious attraction.
Boats in the marina, cocktails, seafood and dinner beside the water can make Greenwich feel surprisingly far removed from everyday suburban life.
And because L’Escale serves breakfast as well, the experience doesn’t necessarily end with dinner.
Wake up, head downstairs and you’re back beside the harbor.
The Spa Upstairs
The Delamar can also work as a destination even if you don’t spend the night.
Its second-floor Delamar Greenwich Harbor Spa is open to both hotel guests and day-spa visitors.
The intimate spa has three treatment rooms and offers massages, facials, body treatments and nail services. Its skincare program incorporates European brands including Biologique Recherche, Valmont and Caudalie.
There’s also a Bridal Bliss package and the ability to arrange spa experiences for groups, making the hotel an interesting option for bridal weekends, birthdays or a sophisticated girls’ day.
Hotel guests also have access to a 24-hour fitness center with a Peloton bike and steam shower.
A very easy Westchester escape suddenly presents itself:

The Marina Changes Everything

The feature that truly separates the Delamar from most hotels in the area, though, is its marina.
The property has more than 500 feet of private dockage and can accommodate sailboats and motor yachts as large as 180 feet.
Yes, that means some guests can actually arrive at the hotel by yacht.
And during the warmer months, the hotel offers access to private charter experiences along the Greenwich coastline and Long Island Sound.
Belvedere guests have another charming option: seasonal complimentary 30-minute harbor cruises, offered on selected days from May through October and narrated by the captain with stories about the Sound’s maritime history.
It’s one of those small experiences that can make a one-night stay feel much more like a vacation.
A Wedding Arrival by Yacht?
This may be one of the most Greenwich things about the entire property.
The Delamar isn’t only a hotel; it’s also a waterfront wedding and private-event venue.
Its waterfront terrace sits beside the marina, creating the possibility of what the hotel itself describes as a French Riviera-style yacht arrival for a wedding.
Imagine the photographs.
Guests gathering beside Greenwich Harbor.
The bride and groom arriving from the water.
Dinner overlooking the marina.
It’s certainly a different entrance from pulling up in a limousine.
The boutique size of the hotel also makes it particularly appealing for more intimate weddings and celebrations rather than enormous ballroom affairs.
Greenwich Avenue Is Right There
Another advantage of staying at the Delamar is that you aren’t isolated at a resort.
Downtown Greenwich is nearby.
That means a weekend can easily include shopping along Greenwich Avenue, lunch or cocktails in town and then a return to the quieter waterfront setting of the hotel.
The hotel even provides courtesy transportation within six miles, while seasonal bicycle rentals offer another way to explore the area.
That combination—waterfront retreat plus walkable-town energy nearby—isn’t especially common.
You can spend part of the day shopping and people-watching and the evening sitting beside the harbor.
Even the Dog Gets the Greenwich Treatment
The Delamar is also dog-friendly, but apparently “dog-friendly” in Greenwich has a slightly different definition.
Dogs receive a bed, bowls and a welcome treat, while additional services can include dog walking, grooming and even a canine massage. A portion of the hotel’s nightly pet fee supports Lucky Dog Refuge in Stamford.

The greatest luxury of the Delamar may actually be its proximity.
From Westchester, you can create the feeling of a weekend away without spending half of the weekend getting there.
There are several ways I’d use the hotel:
The romantic overnight: Harbor-view room, cocktails, dinner at L’Escale and breakfast by the water.
The spa escape: Massage or facial, lunch, shopping on Greenwich Avenue and perhaps an overnight stay.
The girls’ weekend: Spa treatments, shopping, dinner and a suite.
The celebration: Anniversary, birthday, engagement or bridal weekend.
The summer escape: Harbor-view balcony, waterfront dinner and a cruise on Long Island Sound.
And you don’t necessarily have to stay overnight to enjoy it. A spa appointment followed by dinner at L’Escale can create a mini getaway on its own.
The Greenwich Version of Getting Away
The Delamar Greenwich Harbor isn’t trying to be a sprawling resort.
That’s part of its charm.
It’s intimate.
The harbor is always nearby.
Downtown Greenwich is just beyond the waterfront.
There are spa treatments upstairs, French-inspired dining downstairs and yachts outside the door.
For Westchester residents accustomed to thinking that a proper luxury escape requires driving several hours or heading into Manhattan, the Delamar offers another possibility.
Sometimes getting away doesn’t require going very far at all.
Sometimes it means crossing the state line, checking into a room overlooking Greenwich Harbor and letting the boats outside convince you that home is much farther away than it really is.
