Who is the Owner of Ballo in Mohegan Sun?

  • by

John J Tunney the III is a restauranteur who opened Ballo in Mohegan Sun on September 22, 2011.

Ballo is a 16,000 square foot restaurant space in Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.

This isn’t Tunney’s first experience with restaurants.  Quite the contrary!  It’s actually his 12th restaurant with all his locations finding homes in New York, Connecticut, Las Vegas, and Atlantic City.

He also has a restaurant named Besito Mexican Kitchen and Agave Lounge with three locations in New York and Connecticut.  The Best Mexican Kitchen was recently listed as the #1 Mexican restaurant in the trig-state area by OpenTable According to mohegansun.com.

The design of Ballo was actually inspired by San Galgano – a Gothic abbey built in the 12th century in Tuscany.

Where is Ballo in the Mohegan Sun Casino?

You can find Ballo across from the gaming area and just a short distance from Pepe’s Pizza near the escalator into the Mohegan Sun.

For Ballo he has a commitment to fresh and locally grown foods.

Tunney loved food and the restaurant business from a young age!    His career started at the age of 14 on Long Island’s North Shore.  He began as a dishwasher and made it all the way to restaurant maverick.

Which other restaurants does John J. Tunney III have?

His first independent venture after working for several restaurant and catering properties in his 20s started in 1993 with Carlton and Co. in Cold Spring Hills, New York.  In 1995 he expanded with Carlton on the Park in East Meadow, New York.  This restaurant has often been named Zagat’s Top Ten restaurants on Long Island.

Shortly after opening these restaurants he opened “Temple Bar and Grilll in Caesar’s Palace.  Next up was Olio! in the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.  It was a very popular spot hosting events to N’Sync, Britney Spears, HBO, Warner Brothers, and Showtime.

Following Olio he returned to New York to open Blue Honu in Long Island helping revitalize Huntington, New York.

American Burger Company is a fresh-food fast hamburger stand.  It will be a multi-unit expansion similar to Besito.

As if that wasn’t enough he created the Tunneyvision enterprise which incorporated a full-service hospitality design, consulting, and coaching group.

Tunney’s most recent restaurant is called The Farm Italy which is a modern but authentic Italian restaurant in Huntington, New York.  It opened in early 2023.  He is pretty popular in Huntington with both Besito and The Shed restaurants in portfolio in that town.
